‘Dark Angels’ and ‘Blood Ties’ Are Strong Female Led Shows Worth Watching, but Hard to Find

The 2,000’s was the hub for supernatural shows. A vast majority of entertainment revolved around vampires, witches, ghosts and the unexplainable. After the success of ‘Buffy The Vampire Slayer’ female-led shows seemed like a hit idea.

What’s better than a strong and beautiful female lead who can kick some serious ass. Not to mention there’s always a love interest to make things a little interesting. There are two shows that come to mind, but they’re hard to get a hold of.

Jessica Alba played Max Guevara in her breakthrough role for the series ’Dark Angel’. The show is an American cyberpunk series that set in 2019. Bizarre, I know. Max is a genetically enhanced super-soldier who escapes the confines of a military facility when she was a child. Each subject was given a tattooed bar code on the back of their neck as an identifier.

As an adult, she maneuvers her life through post-apocalyptic Seattle, Washington. Her goal is to track down the other children that were also genetically enhanced while keeping under the radar of government agents.

Along the way she is persuaded by Logan Cale (Michael Weatherly), a vigilante by the name of Eyes Only, to help him fight corruption and crime. A budding romance begins between Max and Vale, but never fully blossoms.

The character of Max is strong-willed and willing to sacrifice herself for innocent people and protect the people she loves. Sadly, the show was canceled after two seasons and is not readily available on streaming services. There are DVD’s for sale on Amazon if you still have a DVD player.

In the wave of strong female roles came the show ‘Blood Ties’ based on the Blood Books by Tanya Huff. Set in Toronto, Vicki Nelson (Christina Cox) becomes a private detective due to losing her eyesight because of a condition known as retinopathia pigmentosa. Her eyesight gradually becomes tunneled until she is blind.

Cue the supernatural! She is contracted to solve a case that introduces her to Henry Fitzroy. Fitzroy played by (Kyle Schmid) is a 470-year-old vampire who is the illegitimate son of Henry VIII of England.

Vicki is strong headed and takes risks in her life and refuses to let the people treat her as a fragile object. Much less treat her as handicapped due to her eyesight. There is an undeniable attraction between Vicki and Henry that turns into a love triangle with her former partner and lover, Mike Celluci (Dylan Neal).

The show was also canceled after two seasons and is only currently available on Amazon Prime. Both shows are worth tracking down for the female leads, the adventures, and the eye candy.
