Not only does Daredevil: Born Again have a new Disney+ release timetable, we also now have first-hand insight from series leads Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio on the creative overhaul that halted production for three months and led to worthwhile changes.

The new Daredevil series originally was penciled in to premiere this spring, but production was paused in October to undergo a creative overhaulDaredevil: Born Again resumed filming on Jan. 22 in New York, and recently wrapped.

The creative overhaul reportedly came after Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige and other execs reviewed footage from the first few Born Again episodes and decided that the series as envisioned by Matt Corman and Chris Ord (of Covert Affairs fame) — a legal procedural light on action and violence, and in which Cox’s Matt Murdock didn’t don his Daredevil duds until Episode 4 — simply didn’t work.

Dario Scardapane (The Punisher) replaced Corman and Ord as showrunner, while on the casting front, Deborah Ann Woll, Elden Henson and Ayelet Zurer wound up reprising their Netflix series roles as Karen Page, Foggy Nelson and Vanessa Fisk.

Did this retooling result in versions of Matt and Wilson that are at least closer to the exact same characters Cox and D’Onofrio played for three seasons in Netflix’s Marvel’s Daredevil?

“Not exactly the same, but much closer,” Cox shares in the video above. “And potentially much improved.”

D’Onofrio in turn said, “It’s hard to comment because I want to say so much about both the [Netflix] show and this show, and the change that happened, but in the end, the last few months of work we did was… written beautifully and directed beautifully…. Personally, I think it’s as intense as we’ve ever been.”

Cox then opens up about why it was “pretty emotional” to reunite with Woll and Henson, noting, “They are such a heartbeat of the show, and always have been.” D’Onofrio similarly sings the “extremely talented” Zurer’s praises, before offering a provocative tease about how things are going with Wilson and Vanessa nowadays.

Cox told TVLine that nine episodes of Daredevil: Born Again were filmed, to premiere in March 2025.
