Daredevil: Born Again star Charlie Cox recently shared that, before the creative reset, he was heartbroken with Marvel Studios‘ plans for the Disney+ series.

“It was pretty heartbreaking when [Deborah Ann Woll and Elden Henson] weren’t around initially,” revealed Cox during an appearance at Awesome Con 2024 (via Popverse). “When we came back to filming, and they had made some changes, which you guys have probably read about and stuff, it was clear that Foggy and Karen are kind of the heartbeat of our show, and always were.”

Daredevil: Born Again received a creative overhaul during the SAG-AFTRA strike

Daredevil: Born Again began production in New York City in February 2023. Filming was scheduled to last until the end of the year but was halted in June due to the Writers Guild of America strike. When SAG-AFTRA also went on strike, Marvel Studios reviewed the footage that had already been shot and realized that Born Again was not working out.

Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige quietly fired Born Again’s head writers and directors, bringing in Dario Scardapane as showrunner and Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead as lead directors. The creative reset also led to the Netflix/Marvel shows being officially recognized as part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe‘s sacred timeline.

When filming resumed in January 2024, set photos revealed that Woll and Henson — who were absent during the initial shooting — had been brought back to reprise their roles as Karen Page and Foggy Nelson, respectively.

“It was really special to have them back. Huge shoutout to Deborah and Elden,” shared Cox at Awesome Con 2024. “I know there’s been some set photos that came out, so I know I can talk about it, because it’s on the internet. But it was really sweet to have some scenes together again.”

Other cast members from Netflix’s Daredevil series that are returning for Born Again include Vincent D’Onofrio as Wilson Fisk/Kingpin, Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle/The Punisher, Wilson Bethel as Benjamin “Dex” Poindexter, and Ayelet Zurer as Vanessa Marianna-Fisk.

Daredevil: Born Again is expected to premiere on Disney+ in 2025.
