Danny Elfman has denied allegations from a woman who accused him of sexual abuse from 1997 to 2002.

In Elfman's response filed on Monday in Los Angeles, the Oscar-nominated composer claimed that the sexual abuse lawsuit in October was "false" and filed with the intention of "embarrassing him" and "extorting settlement money," according to documents obtained by PEOPLE.

In October, a Jane Doe claimed that he groomed and assaulted her when she was a 21-year-old student at the New York Film Academy. She sued him and his company, Musica de la Muerta, for sexual assault, gender violence, intentional infliction of emotional distress, sexual harassment and negligence.

The plaintiff's lawsuit said the composer "removed all of his clothing until he was completely nude and walked around nude in front of Plaintiff, exposing his genitals.”

The plaintiff claimed Elfman exposed himself every time they’d see each other after that and he slept naked next to her while she was fully clothed. She added in the suit that she “felt uncomfortable but did not say anything because she did not want to risk losing [Elfman] as a friend and mentor, given what she perceived to be a very lucky position she was in, as a consultant for his work and protégé.”

She claimed that their friendship ended after Elfman told her in 2002: "Every time you have ever slept next to me, I would masturbate next to you."

In his response, Elfman, 70, claims he "committed no sexual abuse, made no inappropriate advances, and never inappropriately touched her."

He also claims that she "fails to allege conduct that constitutes sexual assault, and no sexual assault ever occurred." If it were true, Elfman alleges that the complaint "would not constitute a sexual assault."

“Plaintiff’s Complaint specifically states that she was an adult at the time of the alleged conduct," the filing states. "Nor does the Complaint allege a single instance of Mr. Elfman touching Plaintiff in an unlawful or inappropriate manner, because he never did so.”

Elfman's lawyers did not immediately respond to PEOPLE's request for comment.

Prior to Jane Doe's lawsuit, composer Nomi Abadi made similar allegations against the composer in 2017, Rolling Stone reported. She then entered an $830,000 settlement and non-disclosure agreement with Elfman over the allegations.

After the composer's filing, Jane Doe released a statement providing context to her lawsuit. She decided to come forward after reading the Rolling Stone article: "What she was saying about him was exactly the man I had known," she wrote.

"Everything she said rang true. Her experiences with Danny mirrored so much of what I had experienced with him. I couldn’t leave her on her own."

She continued, "The man I thought was my friend and mentor had been using me for years. I thought I had been a person to him; instead, I was pure 'object.'"
