‘The Danish Girl’ Wows With 10-Minute Standing Ovation In Venice Premiere

Universal and Working Title execs were celebrating tonight at Venice’s Aman Hotel after the gala world premiere of The Danish Girl wowed the Lido. The period transgender drama received a 10-minute standing ovation in the Sala Grande — not a common happenstance for a film here. Star Eddie Redmayne, who earlier today called his role as Einar Wegener/Lili Elbe “a dream come true,” is again firmly on the awards trail.

He and lauded co-stars including Alicia Vikader, Mattias Schoenaerts and Amber Heard were all on hand for the premiere where there wasn’t a dry eye in the house. Reviews have so far been mixed, but is this another coup for Universal in a year of milestones?
