The new film, a remake of the 2019 Chinese film 'Parallel Forest,' is out Feb. 23

Danielle Deadwyler is going into the woods.

The Till actress, 41, stars with real-life brothers Edwin Hodge and Aldis Hodge in the first trailer for sci-fi thriller Parallel, exclusive to PEOPLE.

A remake of the 2019 Chinese film Parallel Forest, Parallel is about Vanessa (Deadwyler), who "takes refuge at her family’s lake house to grieve after suffering the loss of her child," according to a synopsis.

"Accompanied by her husband Alex (Aldis) and his brother Martel (Edwin), Vanessa attempts to regain her sense of normalcy after the tragedy. But soon after their arrival, she experiences an aberration when she is attacked by a parallel universe’s version of herself."

Once she discovers the existence of multiverses, Vanessa "must reconcile the fact that these parallel gates will either hold the key to releasing her grief or trapping her forever."

Aldis, known for roles in Black Adam and The Invisible Man, says in a statement, "This is an exciting new step for my family and I. Producing our first film has been a fantastic labor of love on a project that we believe in."

"And being able to work with a super talented artist such as Danielle Deadwyler was a gift," he adds. "We aim to give our audience the same exhilarating feeling we had that initially inspired us to be a part of Parallel."
