As they often say in the original Avatar: The Last Airbender, everything changed when the Fire Nation attacked. Welp, the Fire Nation is back on the scene... now in live-action.

Five new photos from Netflix's live-action series adaptation of the popular Nickelodeon animated show take us behind enemy lines to meet some of the key characters sure to burn up the screen. Leading the pack is Daniel Dae Kim as Fire Lord Ozai, appearing in his Fire Nation throne room and donning the figure's traditional headpiece.

Fans can also see Paul Sun-Hyung Lee as Ozai's brother, General Iroh; Elizabeth Yu as the Fire Lord's dementedly twisted daughter, Princess Azula; Ken Leung as Commander Zhao; and a new look at Dallas Liu as Crown Prince Zuko, Ozai's tortured son who's hellbent on finding the Avatar.

Set in a fantasy world full of benders who can manipulate one of the four elements — water, earth, fire, and air — the live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender series will adapt the events of the original cartoon.

Led by Fire Lord Ozai, the Fire Nation attacked and wiped out the Air Nomads as the first act toward world domination. The Avatar, a reincarnated being with the ability to master all four elements, is meant to maintain balance and harmony. But the next life cycle's Avatar has yet to reveal themself... until the young Aang (Gordon Cormier), said to be the last surviving Air Nomad, reawakens in a world nearly overrun by the Fire Nation. He must take his place as the Avatar, learn to harness his powers, and set things right.

In June of last year at a virtual TUDUM fan event, Netflix revealed first looks at Cormier's Aang, as well as the other lead characters: waterbender Katara (Kiawentiio), her brother Sokka (Ian Ousley), and Liu's Zuko.

The series, showrun by Albert Kim, will feature a bevy of other notable cartoon characters, from King Bumi of the Earth Kingdom (Utkarsh Ambudkar) to Kyoshi warrior womn Suki (Maria Zhang) to Princess Yue of the Northern Water Tribe (Amber Midthunder) to Azula's acrobatic friend Ty Lee (Momona Tamada).

A premiere date has not been set, though Netflix is planning to release Avatar: The Last Airbender next year — which means more sneak peeks are likely to come out soon. Netflix announced today that Geeked Week, another of the streamer's virtual fan events, will run this year from November 6-13 and will include... something related to Avatar.
