D’Angelo Russell has begun the process of making a name for himself in Brooklyn … by making a name for himself in Manhattan.

On Wednesday night, the former No. 2 overall draft pick and new addition to the Brooklyn Nets suited up at legendary New York streetball-run Dyckman Park. He joined Nets teammates Isaiah Whitehead and Rondae Hollis-Jefferson on Highbridge the Label, which was facing off against Strictly Business in playoff action during the annual Dyckman summer tournament.
The 21-year-old former Los Angeles Lakers prospect wasn’t the high scorer on the night; Whitehead led the Label with 20, while Cairo Brown popped for a game-high 37 for Strictly Business. When it came down to it, though, the Label looked to the man with “ice in [his] veins” … and Russell delivered, sending the assembled NYC crowd into hysterics:

This is how you introduce yourself to NEW YORK CITY. Game-winning three in Overtime of a Playoff game. @Dloading did that! #IceWater pic.twitter.com/K7SYO09lyE

Walk it up, stutter-step, go to the left, pull up, drain an overtime game-winning three, immediately get swarmed by an adoring populace. There are worse ways to make friends in a new city, you guys — and worse way to start building a reputation in a city that can be tough on dudes who aren’t tough back, but that will always open its arms to those who can back up their talk on the streets they walk.
The legend grows.. https://t.co/DQzWTDGhst
