“That seems like it had been a few weeks in coming. He was in the bottom two in the season premiere episode, so way back when he had trouble connecting with fans,” says Gold Derby editor Daniel Montgomery about the not-too-surprising elimination of Mauricio Umansky at the end of “Monster Night” on “Dancing with the Stars.” “This week he had another good dance, one of his better dances, and just like Mira Sorvino, he ended up paying the price for it.” Watch Montgomery’s video slugfest with Gold Derby contributor Jeffrey Kare.

SEEIt’s a battle of the ages in the team dance on ‘Dancing with the Stars” Music Video Night

“Monster Night” had a few other memorable moments, like Jason Mraz‘s zombie death stare and Xochitl Gomez‘s health scare having to be carried to the judges’ table by her partner Val Chmerkovskiy. There was also Harry Jowsey, who started feeling the sting of public criticism over his dances. We at Gold Derby have been among his critics, but as Kare explains, “Harry, if you do happen to be watching or listening to this, which you probably shouldn’t, but in case you are, we mean no disrespect to you at all.” Montgomery also urges, “Don’t watch this, and [to his professional partner] Rylee, if you see a phone in his hands, slap it out of his hand … I never read the comments.”

Umansky’s elimination means that Jowsey is still in the running, so what will happen on “Music Video Night”? There will be team dances organized by age with the “older” contestants — and by that I mean everyone over 30 — repping Team 4 Everybody and the under-30 whippersnappers grouped on Team Young’n Style. Jowsey is on the team of youngsters, and as luck would have it, he’ll be the only male celebrity on that team, which could be tricky. “It’s going to depend on what they have him doing in the dance,” Montgomery argues. “It needs to be something that compliments him and something that he can also match the other dancers in the routine because it’s going to be him and three male pros, so he’s going to be compared to them.” Will those comparisons be favorable? We’ll find out tonight.
