‘Dancing with the Stars’ surprising poll results: 78% of fans say controversial Adrian Peterson should NOT have been eliminated

NFL football star Adrian Peterson was a controversial contestant on “Dancing with the Stars” to say the least due to allegations of child abuse and domestic violence. Thus, many fans online celebrated his elimination on “Disney100 Night.” But we got different results when we polled fans of “DWTS” after last week’s results. When we asked who should have been eliminated from the competition, 21.92% voted for Peterson. That means more than 78% of respondents would have eliminated someone else. The vast majority of fans were split between five contestants. Getting the most votes (29.08%) was “Real Housewives” star and real estate agent Mauricio Umansky. He landed in the bottom two on “Premiere Night,” so it didn’t seem like he would last long in the competition, but he has been safe from elimination ever since. On “Disney100 Night” he performed a paso doble, a difficult and combative matador dance and scored a total of 19 out of 30 from the judging panel.

But he wasn’t the lowest scoring contestant on the judges’ leaderboard. That was a tie between “Brady Bunch” star Barry Williams and “Buffy” alum Alyson Hannigan. They both scored 18 out of 30. They had enough viewer votes to keep them off of the chopping block, but 23.04% of the fans we surveyed thought Williams should have left the competition for his jazz number. Only 8.28% would have sent Hannigan packing for her jazz routine.

Peterson actually had a pretty good night, dancing-wise. His improved performance outscored all of the above celebrities, so perhaps the relatively high percentage of users who thought he was rightly eliminated was a testament to just how controversial he was. Consider that “Too Hot to Handle” star Harry Jowsey got the same judges’ score as Peterson, but only 11.63% of users thought he should have gotten the boot, about half the number of readers who voted for Peterson.

So it’s clear that there were many “DWTS” fans against Peterson, and it’s possible that his boosted score made his supporters complacent, which turned out to be a deadly combination. What did you think of his ouster? Were you celebrating, or were you sad to see him go?
