Dancing with the Stars surprise: Look who didn't make it to the final three

He got so close!

But Drew Scott, who came into season 25 of Dancing with the Stars with a massive HGTV fanbase, couldn’t pull off the ultimate makeover – turning himself into a Mirror Ball Trophy winner. He will be missing from Tuesday night’s finale featuring Lindsey Stirling, Jordan Fisher, and Frankie Muniz.

“It’s been such a ride,” Scott told the crowd Monday. “Look at the amazing talent.. it was a once in the lifetime opportunity.”

The night started out fairly promising for the Property Brothers star. Scott’s Paso Doble earned a 36 out of 40 and had judge Carrie Ann Inaba saying it was “by far your best dance. You were so at ease.” He followed it with a freestyle where he flipped Emma Slater and took what host Tom Bergeron called a “mid-dance fake-out” — he and his partner literally stopped dancing for a few lines of dialogue before resuming their acrobatic number. It earned a 39, with Inaba casting the lone 9.

His scores were almost as strong as those earned by Muniz, who garnered a huge following this season after opening up on “Most Memorable Year” night about how he couldn’t remember starring on Malcolm in the Middle. Muniz’ Foxtrot on Monday began with a solo and ended with 38 out of 40, with judge Len Goodman saying “you got that great mix of Hollywood razzle but still maintained the Foxtrot.” Before his freestyle, Muniz broke down in front of the camera by saying how his partner Witney Carson “helped me face my fears. She helped me get to the finals and where I am as a person right now. I will always be thankful for that.” He went on to perform a “Rhythm Nation”-inspired dance, as described by judge Bruno Tonioli, that earned a 38.

Jordan Fisher and Lindsay Stirling, in stark contrast, have long been shoo-ins for the finale, with both celebs earning 40s for their Charleston and Quickstep, respectively. Their freestyle performances were equally as magnificent, with both winning another set of perfect scores.

Season 25 of DWTS wraps up Tuesday night at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
