'Dancing With the Stars' Maksim Chmerkovskiy Talks Wanting to Be a 'Girl Dad'

He’s ready for a Daddy’s girl! Dancing With the Stars pros Maksim Chmerkovskiy and Peta Murgatroyd are already proud parents to their three-year-old son Shai, but they’re not done expanding their family just yet. The couple recently opened up to Entertainment Tonight about their plans to have more children — and hopefully a girl — in the near future.

“I want it on the record, right here right now. I want a girl. I want a girl more than anything,” Chmerkovskiy proudly revealed. However, that’s not to say if they were to welcome another healthy baby boy, he’d be disappointed. “If it’s going to be another boy, it’s going to be incredible. But I’m the girl dad,” he added.

Murgatroyd echoed her husbands remarks, adding that from a mother’s point of view, it’s difficult to wrap her head around how she could possibly love another baby boy like her son. “If it’s another boy, like, ‘Oh my gosh, how am I going to love another boy how I love my Shai?’ Maybe a little girl will be different?” she asked.

Considering both Maks and Peta come from larger families, they admittedly understand the “huge value” of growing up with a sibling, and want to offer that to little Shai — whether it’s a sister or brother. But regardless of their future child’s gender, one thing’s for certain — they are ready for more, and soon! The mother-of-one added that the couple doesn’t want to wait much longer to welcome baby No. 2 and hopes that time comes “sooner than later.”

“We’re definitely looking forward to more,” the father-of-one added.
