This 'Dancing With The Stars' Contestant is Already Facing So Much Backlash He Shut Down His Twitter

Who knew that announcing the Dancing With The Stars cast could cause so much drama? And yet, just two days after the cast was revealed, Karamo Brown deleted his Twitter amid backlash for DWTS‘ Sean Spicer comments. Given Spicer’s reputation from his time in the White House, he’s been a controversial pick to join the competitive dancing show. So, when Brown spoke out in favor of his DWTS co-star, Twitter got mad — so mad, apparently, that Brown no longer wanted to be on the platform.

Brown’s positive comments about Spicer were made in two places: on his Twitter, and in an interview with Access Hollywood. Brown’s now-deleted tweet was in response to a fan expressing disappointment at Brown’s involvement in a show that ostensibly promoted Spicer as well. The Queer Eye star said this: “First, I have no say who is on the cast and didn’t find out till this morning that he is on! But I’ll tell you this… I’m excited to sit down w/ him and engage in a respectful conversations. Only way things get better is if we try to educate those who have different POV than us.”

In the Access Hollywood interview, Brown takes it a step further, calling Spicer a “really sweet guy.”

When Brown was criticized for this interview on Twitter, he was quick to respond, too: “I honestly can’t stand people like you who post things like this […] just to flame the fire and get a reaction. We fight harder than your ass ever has for people of color and members of the LGBTQIA community.” That tweet was posted on August 22; Brown deactivated his account hours later.

Spicer was formerly President Trump’s Press Secretary, and resigned in 2017 amid what appeared to be a period of disagreement with the President. During his tenure, Spicer repeatedly attacked the media and gave misinformation or outright lies. His casting on DWTS — for which he will earn six figures — has been a point of contention for viewers and participants alike, with host Tom Bergeron speaking out against the decision on Twitter.

Spicer’s comments on all this are as follows, told to Mediaite on Wednesday: “I’m going to enjoy myself, and if more people like me, then that’s great. I’m very happy with who I am. I’m very happy with the friends that I have.”

I am of course referring to the investigation into serious allegations of illegal conduct by the president of the United States — that the president has engaged in a persistent pattern and practice of obstruction of justice. The allegations are grave, the investigation is legitimate, and ascertaining the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the unqualified, unevasive truth is absolutely critical.” - Mitch McConnell February 12, 1998.
