Dancing With The Stars Alum Julianne Hough Will Replace Tyra Banks As Co-Host

The tide is turning on Dancing with the Stars, and it’s about bloody time. Gone are the days of dramatic entrances from host Tyra Banks. There will be no extravagant dresses and desperate attempts to achieve main-character energy. Many fans of DWTS are still wondering why Tyra was put there in the first place.

Tyra is out for Season 32 but co-host Alfonso Ribeiro won’t be standing alone. A familiar face is about to pop back in and pick up where Tyra left off. Someone check on Cheryl Burke because Tyra’s loss has now become Julianne Hough’s gain.

According to Variety, Julianne is joining her brother Derek Hough back on set as the new co-host of DWTS. Jules will run things alongside Alfonso, and for most viewers, this team actually makes sense.

Julianne said, “It is such an honor to be rejoining ‘Dancing with the Stars‘ as co-host. The show holds such a special place in my heart from the many years and different roles I have had the privilege of being a part of.” She’s no Tom Bergeron, but we’ll manage.

She continued, “The incredible team that brings the ballroom to life every night has been my family for the past 17 years. I am so excited to reunite with Alfonso, Carrie Ann [Inaba], Bruno [Tonioli], Derek, the unbelievably talented pros, and the amazing cast on the dance floor. The energy is magnetic every time you step foot into the ballroom and I can’t wait to feel it again — and of course to share it all with the absolute best and most loyal fans — for another exciting season.”

Len Goodman took his final bow at the conclusion of Season 31 and will be missed, but Tyra moving on to other opportunities kind of softens the blow. Disney is trying to give the show a wider audience by bouncing it from ABC to Disney+, but if you don’t have Disney+ I guess it sucks to be us. I personally refuse to invest in yet another streaming service and would appreciate the show returning to network television.

Julianne has had a long relationship with DWTS. She showed up as a professional dancer back in the olden days of 2007. After winning two seasons in a row, she left in 2009 and returned in 2014 to judge. She left again in 2017 and made an appearance as a guest judge in 2021. In her time off from the show, Julianne was in several films and had a hosting gig with America’s Got Talent. Her new role with Alfonso will debut when DWTS returns to Disney+ this fall.

It will be nice to have two dancers hosting and hopefully benefitting the show as a whole. We’ll be sure to update you as soon as the Season 32 dancers are announced.
