Dan Levy is recalling the first time he hosted Saturday Night Live and how the presence of Drew Barrymore comforted him.

While making an appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show, the Schitt’s Creek alum remembered running into Barrymore at a Covid testing area in 2021 ahead of his turn as hot on the NBC late-night sketch show.

“I was just about to do Saturday Night Live [and] I had never been so nervous in my entire life,” Levy recalled. “And I saw your face, and it was like an instant balm. There are moments when you need a little bit of a life raft, and I looked over and saw you and was like, ‘Today’s gonna be OK.’ The nerves are gonna be fine.”

The run-in was a little different from Barrymore’s perspective, as she says she was nervous about meeting Levy.

“In my mind, here’s my inner dialogue, ‘Oh my god, there he is. He’s so amazing. Keep it cool. Don’t bother him. You know what? You’ll regret it if you don’t say hi. Don’t be a dork,’” she remembered. “But it is nerve-wracking to meet your heroes or people you love.”

Levy said that he suffers from social anxiety, which is an “extra layer” added to the feelings of meeting someone you admire.

“It’s not just like, ‘Is this person special and I want to meet them?’ It’s also just like, ‘I’m uncomfortable in the room generally speaking most of the time,'” the Good Grief actor and directed said.
