Dan Harmon’s ‘HarmonQuest’ Renewed for Season 2 at NBCUniversal’s Seeso

NBCUniversal’s comedy streaming service Seeso has given a second season pickup to “HarmonQuest,” the live-action/animated hybrid series from “Community” boss Dan Harmon and Universal Cable Productions.

The next batch of 10 “HarmonQuest” adventures will premiere in 2017. Seeso is mining its Harmon vault, however, with the Nov. 3 launch of “HarmonQuest: Expanded Universe,” featuring bonus material from the first season, which premiered in July.

The half-hour series features Harmon, Jeff Davis, Erin McGathy and Spencer Crittenden acting out fantasy role-playing adventures in the vein of Dungeons and Dragons. Harmon and Crittenden created the series for UCP and Harmon’s Starburns Industries banner.

“A lot of people worked very hard on season one of ‘HarmonQuest’ and I love seeing them rewarded for that because, well, that’s basic behavioral conditioning,” said Harmon.

Seeso chief Evan Shapiro, NBCUniversal’s exec VP of digital enterprises, called the show a “dragon-sized hit” for the SVOD service that launched in January. “Its unique production hybrid of live-action and animation is like nothing else out there,” said Aimee Carlson, VP of development for UCP.

Seeso is available for $3.99 a month. It serves up a mix of acquired comedies as well as on-demand access to NBC’s “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,” “Late Night with Seth Meyers” and “Saturday Night Live.”
