Damon Dash has requested to have his child support payments lowered, as he claims he barely made $5,000 in 2023.

According to TMZ, the Harlem native, who is embroiled in a custody case with ex-wife Rachel Roy, recently filed legal docs voicing his financial issues. He says he only earned $5,140 dollars for the entire year of 2023 and is unable to afford the reported $3,000 he currently pays Roy, with whom he shares two daughters.

Per the filing, Dash is now looking to have those monthly payments adjust to $428 per month given his current financial circumstance, which he attributes to failing to fiscally recover from the COVID pandemic and his various business ventures having yet to yield projected returns.

However, Roy has challenged Dash’s claims, alleging that he’s hiding money from various business interests. She believes he still receives earnings from Roc-A-Fella Records, as well as his other ventures, which include a clothing brand, spirits company, and a streaming service. A decision on Dash’s request for lower child support payments has yet to be made, as a judge will rule on the matter at a later date.

Recently, the 52-year-old acknowledged his financial woes, admitting that he’s yet to turn a profit, but that his struggles have not diminished his pride. “I’ve had to start [a] new company from scratch, without any money to start it with,” he said on an episode of his program, The CEO Show.

“I had to do it [by] rubbing two sticks together. So I can’t pay out three or four hundred thousand a year in child support, ‘cause I ain’t making that. But I’m not ashamed of that because I have things to show for it, but it hasn’t profited yet. I’m like a proud broke, but it ain’t broke, because I have things to show for it.”

In more positive news, Dash is making a return to the music scene this year with his group The Black Guns, as 365, the band’s collaborative album with rapper Freeway, is slated for release in 2024.
