‘The Dam Keeper’ Feature Film In Works At Fox Animation

20th Century Fox Animation is teaming with Tonko House to develop a feature film based on The Dam Keeper, last year’s Oscar-nominated animated short written and directed by Tonko House founders and former Pixar art directors Robert Kondo and Daisuke “Dice” Tsutsumi. The pair, who worked on Toy Story 3, Monsters University and Ratatouille, are aboard to direct. Fox will distribute worldwide.

The Dam Keeper feature film will pick up several years after the events of the short, which was dialogue-free 2D The full-length movie, to be penned by John Henry Hinkel, will have dialogue and is intended to be made primarily in CG, with early animation tests already underway. Kane Lee is producer. 20th Century Fox Animation exec Darlene Caamaño Loquet has shepherded the project and is overseeing for the studio.

Kondo and Tsutsumi are also writing and illustrating a trilogy of Dam Keeper graphic novels withe the first to be released next year. The also are mounting a 10-episode series for Hulu in Japan to air in summer 2017 to be directed by Erick Oh, who also worked at Pixar.
