Dallas officially awarded 2018 NFL draft

You knew, once the NFL started moving the draft around to various cities, it wouldn’t take long for Jerry Jones to get his piece of the pie.

The NFL will hold the 2018 NFL draft at Jones’ AT&T Stadium just outside Dallas. NFL commissioner Roger Goodell confirmed that at a press conference Wednesday. The stadium holds more than 100,000 fans with massive video boards over the field, and there should be a massive crowd in football-crazy Texas. It should be quite a show.

This is no surprise for a few reasons. AT&T Stadium is perhaps the best stadium in the NFL, and that’s why it has hosted many big-time events like the College Football Playoff, Super Bowl and college basketball’s Final Four. On top of that, the Cowboys have perhaps the largest fan base in the NFL. The NFL wants to draw a ton of fans, as it did in Philadelphia earlier this season, and that’s a guarantee in Dallas.

Also, Jones is probably the most powerful person in the NFL. If you read anything on the back-door dealings in the league, Jones is often the one pulling the strings. Once Dallas became a possibility for the draft, it was clear where this was headed.

Dallas should put on quite a show for the draft next year. It will be a perfect venue for it.
