LM: "When we think about politics, a lot of us focus only on the presidency and the federal government," Obama wrote. "But the elected officials who matter most in reforming police departments and the criminal justice system work at the state and local levels." Boom, this right here. That's one of the better comments I've ever seen from Obama. Yeah, you can blame Trump, Obama, Bush, etc all you want but it's local officials and politicians that have the direct power to make change and influence minds because every single of these brutality incidents happens with a law enforcement official at the local level. Weed out bad cops on a routine basis with training and evals and also hold community events that bring residents and law enforcement together. Where I live (small town) this happens at events throughout the year and it lets residents see police in uniform in a different light and police seeing them different too and everyone at the end of the day has families and we are all part of the same community.
