Dallas-based Milkshake Concepts closes Nashville bar and restaurant amid rapid expansion

Downtown Nashville bar and nightclub concept Layer Cake closed this week after almost two years in business, according to a notice on the venue's website.

The multi-level bar and restaurant on Third Avenue opened in spring 2022. Dallas-based restaurant group Milkshake Concepts owns the business. The hospitality company has been bullish on its expansion to Nashville, also opening Harper's in late 2023 and planning another concept to be called The Finch.

It's unclear what's next for the former Layer Cake location. Milkshake Concepts CEO Imran Sheikh said his company signed 10-year restaurant leases in Nashville in a previous interview with The Tennessean.

"We felt ready to make a big investment," Sheikh said about his decision to expand to Nashville. "We felt so good about it that now we have four signed leases in this market. We're all in."

The closure of Layer Cake Nashville may be part of a larger reshuffle for Milkshake Concepts. Harper's Dallas also closed recently, according to a notice on its website. The same notice said Paparazzi's Chophouse will replace the Harper's location in Dallas.

Other restaurants in Milkshake Concept's portfolio include Stirr, Vidorra and The Finch in Dallas, Texas.
