Dakota Fanning was steering clear of the roads until just a few years ago.

The actress, 30, revealed in a new interview with her Ripley costar Andrew Scott that she "only learned to drive four years ago."

The revelation came during a conversation with ELLE, where the pair answered questions about their Netflix limited series — including one about Scott's driving skills.

After Fanning asked the question, she admitted to her costar that she picked up the skill relatively recently herself, which Scott joked "makes me feel better."

"I sort of do know a tiny little bit how to drive," Scott, 47, said. "But I live in Central London and it's my carbon footprint."

Scott previously revealed in 2019 that he didn't know how to operate a vehicle while appearing on The Graham Norton Show in 2019. At the time, he called the conversation "one of the most humiliating things."

"Because when you don't drive, they get quite worried because it's all insurance when you're playing a driver," he said of acting roles that have required him to sit behind the wheel. "They sort of just have to assume that you're completely ignorant. They're like, 'Do you know a steering wheel?'"

"And then they put you on what can only be described as sort-of like a massive skateboard, the whole car," Scott continued. "And they sort of drag you along... And then you have to sort of act."

Scott and Fanning's latest project, Ripley, follows con man Tom Ripley (Scott), as Fanning portrays Marge Sherwood, the girlfriend of Ripley's son Dickie Greenleaf (Johnny Flynn). Patricia Highsmith’s bestselling Tom Ripley novels have previously made their way to film in 1999's The Talented Mr. Ripley starring Matt DamonGwyneth Paltrow and Jude Law.

Beyond just Scott, plenty of other actors also know their way around a movie set without knowing how to use a set of car keys.

Oscar nominee Paul Mescal similarly opened up to Graham Norton in January about finally getting his driver's license. The 28-year-old actor explained that while he does indeed "now have a license," he "didn't" when getting cast on miniseries Normal People.

"Part of the stipulation for Normal People was that I had to be able to drive," he said. "And the casting director's like, 'You can drive?' and I was like, 'Yeah.' That wasn't really a lie because I could drive, I just wasn't legally allowed to drive."

Mescal "didn't have" a license when those working on the show asked for him to send one over, but he was still able to secure a learner's permit in time for filming.

"It was really embarrassing that I couldn't drive the car by myself. So [Daisy Edgar-Jones] thankfully had a driver's license so if Daisy wasn't in the car..."

In November, actor Archie Madekwe spoke with PEOPLE about how he too had to learn to drive to shoot Gran Turismo, a film in which he starred as pro racer Jann Mardenborough.

"I learned how to drive, and I was shooting during the day," Madekwe shared, noting he took driving lessons in the United Kingdom. "And then at night, I was taking driving lessons, and then went off to Budapest and played a race car driver. It was intense."

"No accidents. I'm doing great," he added. "Absolutely nothing on the insurance. I'm doing brilliant."
