Dakota Johnson just offered a rare insight into life with Chris Martin in an interview with Bustle and we’re swooning over the adorable details.

Johnson, 34, appeared on the cover of Bustle’s March issue in a stunning photoshoot which accompanied an uncharacteristically candid interview. The Madame Web star revealed that she and Martin, who she has been dating since 2017, live by the beach in Malibu, California, in a home that offers much needed escapism from their public lives. “I need to be in nature. I can be out at my house and not see or speak to another human for days on end, and I feel wonderful,” she told Bustle.

The actress also revealed her adoration for Martin, 47, when discussing Beautyland, the first book in her newly-launched book club. In Beautyland, the protagonist is in a relationship with a musician, something Johnson no doubt relates to in her romance with the Coldplay frontman.

“I love me a musician,” she jokes. “I think it’s talent. I think it’s the way that they see the world. But I think it really depends on the musician.”

“I love watching him,” Johnson says of seeing Martin play music live. “I could watch him every day. I don’t know how to explain it. I feel like, I don’t know… I’m watching my most favorite being do his most favorite thing.”

Later in the interview, Johnson opens up about her progressive views on sex and sexuality, which she credits to her mother, Melanie Griffith.

“I was lucky that I grew up with a mom who was very open — at times maybe too open — about sexuality, but it was always like, whatever you’re into and when you want to have sex, you just let me know and we’ll get birth control. It was really healthy, and it made me feel like I was allowed to discover my sexuality on my own, which I think is such a gift,” she says. “We’ve progressed so much in some societies, for people to be allowed to say that they feel neither here nor there in terms of gender. That’s an incredible thing.”

As for the increased discourse surrounding polyamory and open relationships, Johnson is supportive of that too.

“I think as long as you’re not hurting anyone physically, emotionally, psychologically, do you. I like that people are exploring existence and how to relate to other people.”

Johnson has her blended family to thank for her open attitude towards relationships. The only child of Griffith and actor Don Johnson has four brothers and two sisters from her parents other relationships.

“I grew up in a family that was so big, and I just believe in the saying ‘Blood is thicker than water,'” she says. “The actual saying is ‘The blood of the covenant is thicker than the water of the womb,’ which means that the connections with people you choose are more solid than the connections to the people you’re actually born to.”

Through her relationship with Martin, Johnson is a proud stepmom to Apple, 19, and Moses, 17, who Martin shares with ex-wife Gwyneth Paltrow. On fitting into Martin’s blended family, Johnson says the transition has been seamless. “I think because I grew up in it, it’s come more naturally, but I wouldn’t have it any other way really. I really wouldn’t. I love it.”
