Dakota Johnson and Chris Martin seemed to be in good spirits while vacationing together in Mexico.

The couple are typically private when it comes to their relationship, but on Monday, photos surfaced of the actress, 34, and the Coldplay lead singer, 46, spending time with each other.

A source tells PEOPLE that the pair were on “a relaxing vacation.”

“They stayed in Punta Mita for a few days. They seemed happy. It was just the two of them. They hung out on the beach. Dakota read a book. They also did yoga and meditation.”

A second source added that the Hollywood couple were “relaxing, talking, reading, swimming, walking, [and] holding hands” during their quick getaway.

According to an insider, Johnson and Martin’s trip appeared to be last minute, and the two returned to Los Angeles on Tuesday.

The Punta Mita vacation came just days after the Madame Web star attended the Mexico City premiere of the film at Cinemex Antara Polanco on Feb. 13.

The 50 Shades of Grey alum plays New York City paramedic Cassandra Webb, who gains clairvoyant abilities that allow her to see the future. Madame Web is based on the Marvel Comics character who originated in 1980 and was featured in Spider-Man stories.

"I wasn't super into comic books before. This was a new world to me," Johnson told PEOPLE at the movie's Los Angeles premiere last week.

"It's about female empowerment and women supporting each other and protecting each other and stepping into their own power," Johnson added.

“We’re actually very good friends,” the Oscar winner, 51, said in October 2023 as she took part in a Q&A on her Instagram Story. “I love her so much.”

The following month, Paltrow posted another photo of herself and Johnson smiling as they held hands.

Martin and Paltrow married in 2003 before they "consciously uncoupled" in 2014 and finalized their divorce in 2016. The “Paradise” singer began his relationship with Johnson in 2017.

During a March 2023 visit to the Conan O'Brien Needs a Friend podcast, Martin gave a rare glimpse into his relationship with Johnson, explaining how she helped his band improve their shows for the hearing impaired.

The singer said his girlfriend introduced him to SubPacs — a device that allows the hearing impaired to feel the vibrations of a concert.

Martin added that implementing her suggestion has been “amazing,” and anyone wishing to use the device would “have an area where you put on the pack and you can feel the show."
