The creatures are watching.

On Tuesday, Warner Bros. Pictures released the first teaser trailer for The Watchers, a new horror film directed by Ishana Night Shyamalan, which follows Dakota Fanning’s character Mina alongside three strangers after getting stuck (and stalked) in a forest.

The trailer opens with Fanning in a dark, poorly lit room in the middle of an Irish forest watching a television program as a vinyl record plays. “What is this place? Who are you?” asks Fanning, before the teaser gives insight at the film’s storyline: she and the three others are trapped in western Ireland after finding shelter there, and they’re being watched by who-knows-what.

“They’ll be really interested in someone new,” says Olwen Fouéré.

“What is that,” responds Fanning to the sound of creaking. “What are they doing?”

“Applause,” responds Fouéré. “For you, Mina.”

The rest of the trailer shows mid-forest chases, hung skeletons with wings, massive holes in the ground, and creepy old-school televisions. “Don’t you wanna know what they are?” Fanning asks as a man gets dragged by an unseen creature. Who are they?

The film is also set to star Georgina Campbell and Oliver Finnegan. Shyamalan (daughter of M. Night Shyamalan) also wrote the film, which is based on A.M. Shine’s book of the same name. It’s Shyamalan’s directorial debut. Abel Korzeniowski is in charge of the horror film’s music.

The Watchers is one of the indie films that received approval from SAG-AFTRA to film in Ireland amid the strike last summer. Fanning last appeared in The Equalizer 3 last year and is set to star in Netflix series Ripley, which premieres in early April.
