The Daily Show’s Hasan Minhaj will host this year’s president-free White House Correspondents’ Dinner. Donald Trump and his aides announced months ago that they had previous plans they just could not move. We understand; it’s hard to get the family table at the Olive Garden — it books up quick. Minhaj has been a correspondent on The Daily Show since November 2014, taking on subjects like religion, the refugee crisis, and, of course, the president.

The White House Correspondents’ Association president Jeff Mason appeared on MSNBC’s Morning Joe to discuss tapping Minhaj for the gig. “I was not looking for someone who is going to roast the president in absentia. That’s not fair, and that’s not the message we want to get across,” Mason explained. “I was looking for somebody who is funny and who is entertaining, because I want the dinner to be entertaining.”

Minhaj has had a successful standup career with an hour-long special premiering on Netflix this year, and in 2016, he hosted the Radio and Television Correspondents’ Dinner.

The White House Correspondents’ Dinner will air Saturday, April 27, on C-SPAN and other cable networks.
