It’s official: The Daily Show will name its new host… sometime next year.

In announcing that its flagship late-night program will return with new episodes post-WGA strike on Oct. 16, Comedy Central confirmed Wednesday that the show’s new permanent host will take his/her seat behind the iconic desk in 2024. In the meantime, guest hosts will continue to fill the void left by Trevor Noah.

On Tuesday morning it was announced (en masse) that CBS’ The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live, NBC’s The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and NBC’s Late Night With Seth Meyers would all return with new episodes on Monday, Oct. 2, while HBO’s Last Week Tonight With John Oliver will kick off its new season this Sunday, Oct. 1.

HBO’s Real Time With Bill Maher, however, is poised to be the first late-nighter back from the writers’ strike, with a new episode airing this Friday.

The Daily Show‘s return comes as the perceived frontrunner for the new host gig, Hasan Minhaj, is mired in controversy over his admitted embellishment of stories told in past stand-up specials. Minhaj, who previously served as a correspondent under Jon Stewart and Noah, had been viewed as the odds-on favorite to succeed Noah, who left in December.

Following Noah’s departure, Comedy Central enlisted more than a dozen comedians — including Minhaj — to guest-host The Daily Show. Between January and May, Leslie Jones, Wanda Sykes, D.L. Hughley, Chelsea Handler, Sarah Silverman, Marlon Wayans, Kal Penn, Al Franken, John Leguizamo, Roy Wood Jr., Jordan Klepper, Desi Lydic, Dulce Sloan and all took turns as headliner.
