The Daily Show 's Jordan Klepper confronts Trump supporters during Capitol riots in new segment

Among the throngs of volatile Trump supporters rioting at the Capitol in Washington, D.C. was The Daily Show correspondent Jordan Klepper doing his best to read them all to filth.

Comedy Central released a new Daily Show segment on Tuesday that revealed that Klepper and a small crew, including a cameraman who was physically attacked, were actually on the ground in D.C. on Wednesday, Jan. 6. Klepper confronted multiple individuals in front of the Capitol building as it was being taken over by riled-up supporters of Donald Trump after attending a rally at the Ellipse in which the president called for a show of "strength" and Rudy Giuliani called for "trial by combat." The riots left five people dead, including a police officer, and multiple others injured.

This is the kind of segment Klepper's used to. He attended multiple Trump events in the past for The Daily Show and peppered Trump supporters with facts, using their own logic against them. In the face of the level of hostility percolating throughout the riots, he maintained his efforts.

In the new video (above), Klepper mocked mask-less Trump-ers for their apparent lack of knowledge about the Constitution and lack of consideration for the thousands of Americans who died from the pandemic, while poking holes in their conspiracy-theory claims about what Trump has repeatedly called a rigged presidential election despite the lack of evidence suggesting so.

"The one thing you couldn't help but notice was just how many people looked like they were preparing for battle," Klepper commented in the segment. As he weaved through the crowds outside the Capitol, making fun of the demonstration, he got a taste of that. Those among the Trump crowds lodged homophobic slurs his way, and one man was caught on camera tripping Klepper's cameraman before trying to claim he had been attacked. It wasn't until a sound that could've been from "thunder, canon," or "teargas" sounded that Klepper's crew vacated the scene.

"In the end, the crowd didn't stop our Democracy. Let's take heart in that," he said. "This s---stained rebellion failed — as did my dry January."
