We now know who will be sitting behind the Daily Show news desk — at least temporarily — when the Comedy Central series returns from its long, WGA strike-dictated break.

As previously announced, the late-night program will return with new episodes on Monday, Oct. 16 — although the show’s new, yet-to-be-named permanent host will not take his/her seat behind the desk until 2024. In the meantime, guest hosts will continue to fill the void left by Trevor Noah.

Following Noah’s December 2022 departure, Comedy Central enlisted more than a dozen comedians to guest-host The Daily Show. Between January and May, Leslie Jones, Wanda Sykes, D.L. Hughley, Chelsea Handler, Sarah Silverman, Marlon Wayans, Kal Penn, Al Franken, John Leguizamo, Roy Wood Jr., Jordan Klepper, Desi Lydic, Dulce Sloan and all took turns as headliner.

Moving forward, Comedy Central announced on Thursday, the rotation of guests hosts will kick off with stand-up comic/TDS correspondent Michael Kosta (for the week of Oct. 16), followed by YouTube superstar Desus Nice (week of Oct. 23), Hell of a Week host Charlamagne tha God (week of Oct. 30), Sarah Silverman (week of Nov. 6), Leslie Jones (week of Nov. 13), the TDS News Team (week of Nov. 20) and then comedian/TDS vet Michelle Wolf (week of Nov. 27).

Of note, Nice, Wolf and Charlamagne tha God were previously lined up to guest-host TDS before the Hollywood strikes shut down the town. Silverman and Jones, meanwhile, are putting in encore appearances as guest hosts — might one of them be under consideration for the full-time gig? Discuss!

The Daily Show‘s return comes on the heels of the perceived frontrunner for the full-time hosting job, Hasan Minhaj, eliciting some controversy over his admitted embellishment of stories told in past stand-up specials. Minhaj, who previously served as a correspondent under both Daily Show vets Jon Stewart and Noah, had been viewed as the odds-on favorite to succeed the latter.

Additionally, longtime correspondent Roy Wood Jr. just last week announced that was exiting his role on The Daily Show after eight years.

The Daily Show airs weeknights at 11/10c and is available the following morning on Paramount+, CC.com and the CC App. (Tickets can be requested for free at dailyshowtickets.com.)
