Daily Digit: CEOs now earn 312 times more than the average worker

Daily Digit is the story behind the numbers that make our world work. Today we’re looking at how much money top CEOs earned last year. CEOs of the 350 largest firms in the U.S. made an average of $19 million in 2017. This is a 17.6% increase from the year before, while the average worker’s salary only increased .3%. This means the average CEO made more than 312 times the average worker. By comparison, CEOs only made 20 times more in 1965. Income inequality has exploded in recent years and shows no signs of slowing down.
