Dad Whose Text Made Daughter-in-Law Cry Gives Engagement Speech — and She Ends Up in Tears Again (Exclusive)

After Doug Rudolph's post-proposal text to his future daughter-in-law brought her — and the internet — to tears, it was no surprise that he had another heartwarming sentiment up his sleeve for the engagement party.

On March 9, loved ones gathered together at the Rudolph family home in Florida to celebrate the engagement of Mia Amabile and Alex Rudolph. The whole party was planned by Alex’s mom, Nina, Mia explains and was Italian themed as the couple will wed in Italy next year.

Nina pulled out all the stops for the occasion that included a pizza station, gelato cart and a fireworks show.

“It was an absolutely stunning party, I was having pinch me moments all night — still am,” Mia tells PEOPLE.

Amid all the excitement, Nina and Doug grabbed the microphone to make a speech in honor of their son and his soon-to-be-wife. To kick off the sweet moment, which Mia shared on her TikTok, Nina introduced her husband, calling him “the man of the hour” and shouting out PEOPLE’s previous reporting on the text he sent his future daughter-in-law following the proposal.

“You guys probably didn’t hear anything about this, you probably don’t know anything about it, but I wrote a text to Mia just between me and her. I don't think anyone has ever seen it,” Doug said during his speech — winking at the viral video sharing his text with the world.

He went on to say that instead of giving a regular speech, he thought he would send another text to Mia — though would read its contents to the party before pressing send.

“It starts the same way the other one did,” he began. “‘My dearest Mia, Nina and I could tell from the very first time we met you that you would be the perfect other half for our son Alex and that we would be incredibly lucky to have you and your family join together with ours. And like a wonderful dream come true it’s actually happening.”

“Now, when Alex was only 2-years-old, my father Sidney would tell me, ‘You know, Alex is a genius, right?’ and I would say ‘Dad, trust me, he’s no genius,’ ” he continued. “'But after seeing Alex somehow find this once in a lifetime jewel I have to say Sidney was obviously right, you’ve really pulled one off my boy and I’m really proud of you.”

As the emotional speech came to a close, Doug teased that the party was about to “take it up a couple levels” before a firework display began and the camera panned to the couple.

“I was obviously a sob fest,” Mia tells PEOPLE of her reaction to the speech. “And it was just so heartwarming to hear him go into even more depth."

“They are just such a loving family who welcomed me with open arms,” she adds. “They clearly go above and beyond for me and treat me like one of their own and I am so thankful for them.”
