Dad Of Missing 5-Year-Old Says He And Wife Were Bullied On Social Media

Summer Wells, 5, was last seen on June 15, 2021, at her family's home in rural Hawkins County, Tennessee. Summer’s mother, Candus, was home with her mother and four children while her husband, Don, was at work. Candus says the last time she saw her daughter was when Summer went into the house with her brothers after helping her plant flowers. And, when Candus went inside the home a few minutes later, she says her sons told her that Summer was in the playroom. Candus says she went to look for Summer, but her child wasn’t there. After first searching for Summer themselves, then calling the police, Don says he and Candus did what many parents of missing children do - they turned to social media for help. But instead of getting tips to help them find their daughter, Don says, online bullies began accusing them of either killing Summer or having something to do with her disappearance, which the couple vehemently denies. Don says that’s why he and Candus decided to sit down with behavior analysts and body language experts Scott Rouse and Greg Hartley. “We knew we would get to a point where it was going to be hard, emotionally,” says Gregg. “And that’s hard to do because people will think you’re a monster, but that’s important to getting facts.” Watch part one of this two-part Dr. Phil, “The Disappearance of Summer Wells,” to see what happened during Scott and Greg’s interview with Summer’s parents. Then tune in to Friday’s conclusion, “Summer Wells Disappearance: What Do the Parents Know?” when Don and Candus meet Dr. Phil. Check your local listing for air times.
