Dad calls out ex-wife over her all-vegan diet for their daughter: ‘A 10-year-old should be given the choice’
A man isn’t sure if his ex-wife has the right to enforce veganism on their daughter.
He asked Reddit’s “Am I the A******? (AITA)” forum to weigh in. He and his ex-wife co-parent their 10-year-old daughter. The ex-wife recently went vegan and expects him to serve their daughter vegan meals during his time with her. He, however, doesn’t think it’s fair.

“Me and my ex-wife share custody of our 10-year-old daughter,” he explained. “My ex-wife has my daughter for two weeks, then me two weeks. My ex-wife has been a vegan for a few months and has recently been telling me to either stop feeding my daughter meat or stop picking her up.
“Me and my now-wife have two kids together, and she makes the majority of the meals we eat. When my daughter is here, she eats what everyone else does. Most meals have meat included.”
The father didn’t think it was reasonable to expect him to feed his daughter vegan meals.

“The last time my daughter was here and I dropped her off, my ex-wife called me cussing me out because my daughter’s poop ‘looked different’ because of the meat,” he wrote. “I told her I’m not going to make a whole new meal just for our daughter to eat because her mom is a vegan. My wife makes perfectly good dinners for us.”
“[My ex-wife] and her mother are now attacking me, and I just want to know if I’m wrong. My wife likes to stay out of these things because of previous drama, so I just need a person who doesn’t know us.”
Redditors thought the parents were mishandling the situation.
“A 10-year-old should be given the choice of what she wants to eat, not have a diet forced upon her because a parent says so,” one person said.
“Am I the only one wondering why a 10-year-old isn’t allowed privacy in the bathroom?” another wrote.
“Your daughter is of the age that she can choose whether she wants to be vegan or not,” someone commented.
