DaBaby has shown a penchant for causing chaos throughout his career and stands by everything he says or does. He recently revealed that he declined a fake rap beef suggested by a well-known “lyricist,” which caused fans to speculate who he could have been talking about.

The Charlotte rapper sat down with Shaquille O’Neal on The Big Podcast to discuss a myriad of topics, so of course the recent rap beef involving Drake, Kendrick Lamar, J. Cole, and many more came up. Upon speaking about Cole’s apology to Lamar after “7 Minute Drill,” the “Suge” rapper took the opportunity to mention he, too, could have found himself in a contentious situation.

“Two days after the situation took place, I got a call — I won’t say from who,” he said. ” I got a call from a certain rapper. It’s like a lyricist, I’m sure y’all know him if I said his name. 1000 percent y’all know him. He shot me a text, he was like, ‘Hit me, you gon’ like this.’ I called him and was like, ‘What up?’ […] He like, ‘You wanna go up? How you feeling?’ I’m like, ‘What’s up? Talk to me.’”

DaBaby said the unnamed rapper was raving about how “fired up” he was from the back-and-forth between J. Cole and Kendrick Lamar, and thought they should spark their own feud. “He said […] ‘We cool behind closed doors, [but] we should diss each other. I feel like it would just go crazy,'” the eight-time Grammy nominee recalled.

Again, he has had no issue with the visibility he has gained from his questionable behaviors over the years but stated that doing something fake wasn’t of interest. “I know for a fact what that would do,” he asserted. “But at the same time, it’s a little more personal with me. I’m not about to say certain things about you if I don’t really feel a certain way about you. I told him, ‘And that’s out of respect for you.’ ‘Cause it can go either which way with me.”

Naturally, given the fact the Baby On Baby 2 rapper did not say a name, fans tried to connect the dots on their own. DJ Akademiks shared the clip on his Instagram page and several users suggested that Joyner Lucas could be the person who proposed this idea to DaBaby. Lucas, however, made sure that they knew that was not the case. “Man why tf everyone in comments saying it’s me?” he wrote in the comments. “Lol smh Jesus Christ.”

Joyner Lucas wasn’t a bad guess given the fact he is known for his lyricism and he has been involved in rap beef before. In 2018, he went toe-to-toe with Tory Lanez, though that was more competitive than having to do with anything personal between the two. From 2018 to 2020, he and Logic had issues with one another and Lucas was transparent about the catalyst for their feud.

“Honestly, it was very strange. It really was. I think I was jealous of him,” he told The Breakfast Club. “The reason why I say that is because I felt like where he was at at that time was where I wanted to be so much.” They ended up reconciling their differences and working together on 2020 record “Isis.”

As for DaBaby, though he hasn’t had any marquee feuds with rappers, he infamously offended the LGBTQIA+ community with his comments at Rolling Loud Miami 2021. “If you didn’t show up today with HIV, AIDS, or any of them deadly sexually transmitted diseases, then put your cellphone lighter up,” he told the attendees. “Ladies, if your p**sy smell like water, put your cellphone lighter up. Fellas, if you ain’t sucking d**k in the parking lot, put your cellphone lighter up.”
