The post D23’s Marvel and Luscasfilm Presentation: All the Trailers and Biggest Announcements appeared first on Consequence.

Disney held its first in-person D23 Expo since 2019 this weekend, bringing fans all the latest updates on Marvel, Pixar, and more. On Saturday, September 10th, perhaps the most highly anticipated panel took over the grand Hall D23 at California’s Anaheim Convention Center, with Lucasfilm, 20th Century Studios, and Marvel sharing the stage for a nearly three-hour extravaganza.

While a selection of panels from the event were streamed online for fans around the world, the Big Three presentation could only be seen by in-person attendees. Not to worry, though, as we have you covered with a complete recap of every trailer, casting announcement, and fresh bit of news that was revealed.

On the trailers front, we received fresh looks at the Star Wars Disney+ series Andor and The Mandalorian Season 3, as well as a peek at the animated Tales of the Jedi. From Marvel, we finally got a look at two highly anticipated streaming projects: the Werewolf by Night Halloween Disney+ special (including a surprise appearance by Man-Thing!) and the Samuel L. Jackson-led Secret Invasion. There was also a preview of the Willow sequel series.

Marvel loaded us up with the revelation of the Fantastic Four director, the Thunderbolts team, and some exciting Captain America: New World Order casting news.

Outside of the galaxy far, far away and the MCU, Lucasfilm gave us a teasing bit of insight into Indiana Jones 5 (with Harrison Ford crying as he revealed this would be his last time wielding the whip), and James Cameron touched on Avatar: The Way of the Water and the other upcoming 3D sequels.

Check out our complete minute-by-minute rolling recap of all the D23 news from Marvel, Star Wars, and more below.

12:45 p.m. – Happy Saturday! The presentation should begin promptly at 1:00 p.m. ET / 10:00 a.m. PT. We’re expecting a lot of big announcements and trailer reveals, so buckle up.

1:10 p.m. – We’re starting with Lucasfilm. Here we go!

1:20 p.m. – Kathleen Kennedy describes Andor as a “24-episode spy thriller,” with Season 2 already close to starting production. “This is the awakening of a revolutionary,” says star Diego Luna. New character posters were also shared:

1:26 p.m. – Moving swiftly to another Disney+ project, a new trailer and artwork for Willow is shown. The sequel series debuts on November 30th. Also newly announced is that Christian Slater will star in the show.

1:37 p.m. – Back to the galaxy far, far away, Season 2 of The Bad Batch is set to premiere on Disney+ on January 4th with two of its 16 episodes.

The animated anthology series Tales of the Jedi will premiere on October 26th. All six of the shorts will debut at once, with three focused on Ahsoka and three centered on a young Dooku. The Tales of the Jedi trailer can be seen below:

1:45 p.m. – Jon Favreau is out to talk about Ahsoka, giving fans their first (slightly distant) look at Natasha Liu Bordizzo’s live-action take on Clone Wars favorite Sabine Wren. Favreau also describes the series as Dave Filoni’s “magnum opus.”

1:51 p.m. – Another new Star Wars Disney+ series, Skeleton Crew, just wrapped filming yesterday. Coming from creators Jon Watts and Christopher Ford, the “coming-of-age” tale stars Jude Law, and you can see a first look at him in the show here:

2:01 p.m. – The cast of The Mandalorian Season 3 has taken the D23 stage! Giancarlo Esposito says, “You haven’t seen Moff be vulnerable before… Only you can supply yourself with the patience to find out what comes next.” Kate Sackhoff, who plays Bo-Katan Kryze, says, “I’m so excited for you guys to see this season of The Mandalorian because I’ve seen it and it’s crazy!”

A teaser trailer for the upcoming season, set to debut on Disney+ in 2023, has also been revealed. Start the hype train:

2:12 p.m. – Finally, some Indiana Jones 5 news! Director James Mangold confirms that both Steven Spielberg and George Lucas have been involved in the film. A first look at the movie is shared with the D23 audience, after which star Harrison Ford reportedly sheds a tear. The actor confirms this would be his last time portraying the iconic adventurer: “This is it, I’m not falling down for you again!”

2:15 p.m. – Deep breath, here comes Kevin Feige to kick off the Marvel D23 presentation! He begins things off by welcoming a live performance of Rogers: The Musical, the Avengers Broadway show seen in Hawkeye.

2:28 p.m. – First up is Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. With the film set to release on November 11th of this year, writer/director Rylan Coogler says he’s still in the editing room working on the final cut. Feige also promises that Wakanda Forever is “the biggest thing we’ve ever done.”

Meanwhile, new footage from the highly anticipated sequel is shown exclusively in D23 Hall, revealing a lot of Namor (Tenoch Huerta) in action, including a battle against M’Baku (Winston Duke). Apparently, the movie will center on how the world tries to take advantage of Wakanda’s weaken state following the death of T’Challa (Chadwick Boseman) and gain access to the country’s resources.

2:35 p.m. – A new logo for Ironheart is revealed, while executive producer Coogler shares a teaser exclusively with D23 attendees. The series, starring Dominique Thorne, will spin off from Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and “explore the battle between magic and tech.”

2:45 p.m. – Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is next, with a promise that the movie will have direct ties to Avengers: Kang Dynasty. (Duh.) Randall Park is also set to return as Jimmy Woo, while Paul Rudd says the movie “is bananas… This is going to be unlike anything you’ve seen from us.”

Footage is also revealed showing Scott Lang undertaking a Quantum Realm heist under the threat of losing Cassie to Kang.

2:48 p.m. – A howling confirmation! Marvel announces that the previously unnamed Disney+ Halloween special is indeed Werewolf by Night. Premiering on October 7th, Michael Giacchino (who has composed scores for MCU films like Spider-Man: No Way Home) serves as director on the “special presentation,” with Gael Garcia Bernal and Laura Donnelly in the lead roles of Jack Russell and Elsa Bloodstone. Check out a look at the logo:

2:52 p.m. – And now a Werewolf by Night trailer! The special appears to be a lovingly retro horror-mystery shot in black-and-white. There’s also a surprise appearance by a character Marvel horror fans know well — and fear his touch! Revealing a new Marvel Studios Special Presentation intro logo, you can watch the preview and peep the poster here:

2:57 p.m. – The long-awaited trailer for Secret Invasion, the Samuel L. Jackson-led Disney+ limited series, has arrived! Positioning the show as a tense thriller, the preview gives us our first looks at Emilia Clarke and Olivia Colman in the MCU. Check it out:

3:07 p.m. – Don Cheadle confirms that Armor Wars will pick up right after Secret Invasion, with filming set to begin next year. You can see a new logo for the seris below.

Loki Season 2, meanwhile, has added Ke Huy Quan to the cast as an employee of the Time Variance Authority. Footage from the Tom Hiddleston-starring Marvel series was also revealed to the D23 audience, showing a lot of Jonathan Majors’ Kang in action. Echo has also wrapped filming, and footage revealed that Vincent D’Onofrio is indeed back — with a bandage over his eye.

3:09 p.m. – Flame on! WandaVision director Matt Shakman will take over directing duties on Fantastic Four, filling the void left by Jon Watts. Unfortunately, that’s all Feige had to say about the hotly discussed movie.

3:18 p.m. – With D’Onofrio remaining on stage, Charlie Cox comes out in front of a new Daredevil: Born Again logo. The series is set to begin filming in 2023 and Season 1 will be 18 episodes, making it by far the longest MCU Disney+ show.

3:22 p.m. – A new logo for Captain America: New World Order has been revealed, but more excitingly, some major casting additions are announced: Tim Blake Nelson will return to the MCU for the first time since The Incredible Hulk, making good on the tease of his character, Samuel Sterns, becoming The Leader. Carl Lumbly and Danny Ramirez will also reprise their Falcon and the Winter Soldier roles as Isaiah Bradley (the first Captain America) and Joaquin Torres (the new Falcon), respectively. Shira Haas has also joined the cast as Sabra, an Israeli superhero who, in the comics at least, is a mutant.

3:28 p.m. – The Thunderbolts cast has been revealed, and it’s a doozy: Florence Pugh (Yelena Belova), Sebastian Stan (The Winter Soldier), David Harbour (Red Guardian), Wyatt Russell (U.S. Agent), Hannah John-Kamen (Ghost), and Olga Kurylenko (Taskmaster) will make up the team of bad-guys-gone-good (?) led by Julia Louis-Dreyfus (Valentina Allegra de Fontaine). Filming is set to start early next year, and you can see teaser art of the Thunderbolts team below.

3:35 p.m. – Brie Larson, Iman Vellani, and Teyonah Parris, the trio leading the Captain Marvel sequel The Marvels, have taken the stage to introduce footage from the film, which is exclusive for those in the audience. It seems the plot will involve the three characters — Captain Marvel, Ms. Marvel, and Monica Rambeau (Photon/Spectrum) — swapping places every time they activate their powers.

The big reveal? Goose is back!

3:38 p.m. – Now for the final segment of the studio panel: 20th Century Studios — a.k.a. Avatar! James Cameron joins in via video to introduce the presentation, revealing that filming on Avatar 4 has just begun. 3D scenes from Avatar: The Way of the Water are also shown to the crowd.

Oh, and that Assassins Creed live-action Netflix series we first heard about in 2020 is officially in the works.

4:00 p.m. – We are waiting to see if a fresh Avatar: The Way of the Water trailer would come swimming out of all this, but it doesn’t look like one’s coming! That’s the end of the Marvel, Lucasfilm, and 20th Century studio presentations at D23. Thanks for following along with us!
