Popular sci-fi video game Cyberpunk 2077 is getting adapted into either a live-action TV show or movie, developer CD Projekt Red has announced.

Details are scarce, but the studio has teamed up with Anonymous Content, the media company known for producing series including True Detective and Mr. Robot, as well as films like The Revenant and Spotlight. There is some indication that the project is a show, since the announcement made sure to highlight that Anonymous Content Studios’ Head of Television Garret Kemble is directly involved alongside Chief Creative Officer David Levine, who previously oversaw the production of series such as True Detective, Westworld, and True Blood. Levine was also involved in the production of the early seasons of Game of Thrones.

Cyberpunk 2077, set in the futuristic Night City, already features some major Hollywood star power. Keanu Reeves plays rock star Johnny Silverhand in the original game, with Idris Elba starring in the recently released Phantom Liberty expansion. There’s already been a popular Netflix anime series based on the game, titled Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, which brought in a whole new audience after it debuted in 2022.

For now, there’s no word on whether Reeves or Elba will reprise their roles. Stay tuned for updates.

After a botched launch in 2020, CD Projekt Red has steadily improved Cyberpunk 2077 with a series of patches and updates. A big 2.0 update just launched alongside the aforementioned Phantom Liberty expansion, and the game has now sold a whopping 25 million copies.

CD Projekt Red’s other big video game series, The Witcher, has a popular live-action series on Netflix — though the show is actually adapted from the original book series.
