The CW Unveils Weeklong Fall 2021 Primetime Schedule and Midseason Debuts

The CW has released its new, seven-night primetime schedule for 2021-2022, filled with competitive games, DC superheroes, supernatural happenings, football and an inaugural Saturday night dedicated to laughs.

This strategic mix of new and returning original scripted series and alternative programming was announced today by Mark Pedowitz, chairman and chief executive officer of The CW.

“This year, as we begin to return to more normalized production schedules, The CW is firing on all cylinders. The CW dares to defy by expanding our primetime schedule to include Saturday night and becoming a full 14-hour, seven-day-a-week broadcast network for the first time in its history, offering more original series on both our linear and digital platforms, providing more opportunities for our advertisers and affiliates,” Pedowitz said. “We are rolling out an exciting line-up of our signature returning series which will be joined this upcoming season by the new, reimagined ‘4400’ and the highly anticipated, brand new revival of ‘Legends of the Hidden Temple’ along with new series slated for midseason, ‘All American: Homecoming’ and ‘Naomi.'”

Sundays will kick off with Nickelodeon nostalgia machine “Legends of the Hidden Temple,” followed by a new U.S. version of satirical horror whodunit reality show “Killer Camp”; the “4400” reboot, which stars Joseph David-Jones and Khaliah Johnson, will wrap up Monday nights after “All American” airs; Thursdays will be full of “Supernatural” nostalgia with the Jared Padalecki headliner “Walker” and “Legacies” back to back; “Nancy Drew” will move its case-cracking to Friday nights; and Saturdays will be dominated by comedy series “Whose Line Is It Anyway?” and “World’s Funniest Animals.”

“The CW continues to grow and innovate on a multiplatform basis with more original programming and more ways for advertisers to connect with our audience,” Pedowitz added.

The network’s inaugural Saturday schedule will premiere with the “iHeartRadio Music Festival” on Oct. 2, from 8 to 10 p.m., and then move to regularly scheduled programming.

Returning to The CW fray this fall are: the fourth season of “All American,” the eighth season of “The Flash,” the sixth season of “Riverdale,” the seventh season of “DC’s Legends of Tomorrow,” the third season of “Batwoman,” the second season of “Walker,” the fourth season of “Legacies,” the third season of “Nancy Drew” and the eighth season of “Penn & Teller: Fool Us.”

Returning series in The CW’s 2022 midseason are: the fourth season of “Charmed,” the third season of “DC’s Stargirl,” the fifth season of “Dynasty,” the fourth season of “In the Dark,” the second season of “Kung Fu,” the fourth season of “Roswell, New Mexico” and the second season of “Superman & Lois.”

Additionally, every episode from the upcoming 2021-2022 season, including those that are debuting throughout the year, will be available to stream on The CW’s free digital platforms following its broadcast on the network.

NEW FALL 2021 SERIES

“440”

Logline: In the show, 4400 overlooked, undervalued, or otherwise marginalized people who vanished without a trace over the last hundred years are all returned in an instant, having not aged a day and with no memory of what happened to them. As the government races to analyze the potential threat and contain the story, the 4400 themselves must grapple with the fact that they’ve been returned with a few upgrades and the increasing likelihood that they were all brought back now for a specific reason.

The original version of “The 4400” was created by René Echevarria and Scott Peters. It featured actors like Joel Gretsch, Jacqueline McKenzie, Conchita Campbell, and Oscar winner Mahershala Ali. It ran for four seasons from 2004-2007 on USA. The reboot has been in development at The CW since 2018 and was ordered to series in February. Ariana Jackson will write and executive produce, with Anna Fricke and Laura Terry also executive producing. Erica Watson will direct and co-executive produce the pilot. CBS Studios will produce. Stars attached to the series include Joseph David-Jones and Khaliah Johnson.

“LEGENDS OF THE HIDDEN TEMPLE”

Logline: In the remake, based on the game show created by David G. Stanley, Scott A. Stone and Stephen R. Brown, will preserve many of the Nickelodeon series’ iconic elements. These include “Olmec,” the giant talking Mayan head, the “Moat Crossings,” “The Steps of Knowledge,” the “Temple Run,” and all of the original team names like “Purple Parrots,” “Blue Barracudas,” “Orange Iguanas,” “Red Jaguars,” “Silver Snakes” and “Green Monkeys.” This time, the entire show is taken out of the safety of a studio setting into a “mysterious jungle” with tougher challenges and bigger prizes. Five teams begin the journey, but only one is “strong enough and smart enough” to enter the ominous Olmec’s Temple, avoid the Temple Guards, retrieve a lost treasure and return it to its rightful owner.

The original Nickelodeon series that aired from 1993-1995 was inspired by Nintendo’s “The Legend of Zelda” game and the “Indiana Jones” movie franchise. The new iteration is described as a supersized and reimagined adult version, so participants are no longer kids, but nostalgia-loving millennials. “Legends of the Hidden Temple” is produced by Stone & Company Entertainment and Nickelodeon. The series is executive produced by Stone and Marcus Fox (“Paradise Run”).

“KILLER CAMP”

Logline: In The CW’s U.S. version of satirical horror whodunit reality competition “Killer Camp,” a mix of 13 unlucky American and British campers navigate through new deadly twists and surprises while competing to expose the “killer” among them at “Camp Pleasant” for a share of the $50,000 cash prize. Each night, one of them will be viciously dispatched by camp handyman Bruce, who’s back with counselor Bobby (comedian Bobby Mair), and a whole host of surprises and hilariously elaborate new murders.

“Killer Camp” is executive produced by Karen Smith and Steph Harris with Ben Wilson as showrunner. The show is produced by Tuesday’s Child Television and distributed by Keshet International. It originally aired on ITV2.

MIDSEASON DEBUTS

“ALL AMERICAN: HOMECOMING”

Logline: The “All American” spinoff follows a young tennis hopeful from Beverly Hills and an elite baseball player from Chicago as they contend with the high stakes of college sports, while also navigating the highs, lows and sexiness of unsupervised early adulthood at a prestigious HBCU. Geffri Maya will reprise her role as Simone Hicks.

“All American: Homecoming” is executive produced and written by “All American” showrunner Nkechi Okoro Carroll. Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, David Madden and Robbie Rogers are also executive producing. Berlanti Productions is producing in association with Warner Bros. Television. Michael Schultz will direct the “All American: Homecoming” pilot spinoff. Stars attached to the project include Peyton Alex Smith, Kelly Jenrette, Cory Hardrict, Sylvester Powell, Netta Walker and Camille Hyde.

“NAOMI”

Logline: “Naomi” is based on the DC character of the same name, who is played in the series by Kaci Walfall. The show follows a teen girl’s journey from her small northwestern town to the heights of the Multiverse. When a supernatural event shakes her hometown to the core, Naomi sets out to uncover its origins, and what she discovers will challenge everything we believe about our heroes.

Ava DuVernay and Jill Blankenship write and executive produce. Sarah Bremner and Paul Garnes of ARRAY Filmworks also executive produce. Amanda Marsalis directed and co-executive produced the pilot episode. ARRAY produces in association with Warner Bros. Television.
