The CW’s ‘Supergirl’ Adds Nicole Maines as Transgender Superhero
The CW’s “Supergirl” announced three new cast members for its upcoming fourth season during San Diego Comic-Con on Saturday, including Nicole Maines, who will play Dreamer, billed in a press release announcing the cast additions as “the first transgender superhero on TV.”
According to the release, transgender activist Maines will play Nia Nal, the newest addition to the CatCo reporting team. “A soulful young transgender woman with a fierce drive to protect others, Nia’s journey this season means fulfilling her destiny as the superhero Dreamer (much like Kara came into her own as Supergirl,” the release reads.
Maines’ credits include “Royal Pains” and “The Trans List.”

Also cast for the upcoming season: “The Last Ship” veteran April Parker Jones, who will play career military woman Colonel Haley, who live and dies by the orders of her commanding officers. Dedicated to her country, she always acts in its best interest — even if it’s not her own.
Rounding out the trio of new cast members is recurring cast member David Ajala as Manchester Black, who’s described as “the type of guy who brings a knife to a gunfight and still walks away the winner. With a dark past, he easily deflects the brutality of his mission with his charm and sense of humor.”
The new additions join previously announced new arrivals Jesse Rath and Sam Witwer.

The fourth season of “Supergirl” will premiere Oct. 14 at 8 p.m.
