The CW Acquires Canadian Sitcom ‘Run the Burbs’ from ‘Kim’s Convenience’ Alum Andrew Phung

The CW reveals Canadian sitcom “Run the Burbs” will make its US debut as the network unveils its Summer 2023 programming lineup.

“Run the Burbs” follows the Phams, a young, bold Vietnamese-South Asian family taking a different approach to living life to the fullest, while changing the way we think about contemporary family values and life in the burbs.

Phung (“Kim’s Convenience”), who co-created and executive produces the series with Scott Townend, stars as stay-at-home dad Andrew Pham. Rahkee Morzaria (“What We Do in the Shadows”) plays Andrew’s free-spirited entrepreneur wife Camille, Zoriah Wong (“Nancy Drew”) as their teenage daughter Khia, and Roman Pesino (“Odd Squad”) as their clever young son Leo. The show is a CBC Original Production produced by Pier 21 Films and distributed by Fifth Season.

The network has renewed both newcomers “Family Law” and the comedy “Bump” for second seasons. Starring Jewel Staite and Victor Garber, the legal drama follows lawyer and recovering alcoholic Abby Bianchi (Staite), as she struggles to put her career and family back together after hitting rock bottom. As a condition of her probation, Abby is forced to work at her estranged father, Harry’s (Garber) law firm which results in a dysfunctional family law firm operating to help other families with their own dysfunctions.

Season 2 picks up with Abby who, after six months’ probation at her father’s firm, has finally found her niche of family law — but her marriage is a trainwreck. On the other hand, Harry (Victor Garber) has made Daniel (Zach Smadu) a partner — but he still wonders if he’s ready to share his firm with his son.

“Family Law” is created, written and executive produced by author Susin Nielsen (“Degrassi”). Jordy Randall (“Heartland”) Tom Cox (“Fortunate Son”), Lark’s Erin Haskett (“Motive”) and Andy Mikita (“Stargate SG-1”) serve as executive producers. The series is produced by Seven24 Films and Lark Productions for Corus Entertainment’s Global.

“Bump” is an Australian comedy-drama series about Olympia Chalmers-Davis, an overachieving 17-year-old student who has a surprise baby and the complications that ensue for the two families involved.

In Season 2, with the expectations of what life was supposed to be still freshly turned upside down, Oly and Santi (Carlos Sanson Jr.) get to know each other better, look to the future, and discover just how much family can mess you up.

Created by Claudia Karvan and Kelsey Munro, Claudia Karvan, Nathalie Morris, Carlos Sanson Jr. and Angus Sampson star in the series.

“Bump” is produced by Roadshow Rough Diamond (“Romper Stomper,” “Les Norton,” “Australian Gangster”) with John Edwards (“Love My Way,” “The Secret Life of Us,” “Offspring”), Dan Edwards (“Romper Stomper,” “Australian Gangster”) and Claudia Karvan (“Love My Way,” “Doctor Doctor,” “Spirited”) serving as producers.

“Great Chocolate Showdown” and “Mysteries Decoded” will also return this summer. Premiere dates and times for the new season will be revealed at a later date.

Among the new titles are “Moonshine,” “Greatest Greek Year Ever: 1982,” and “Recipe for Disaster.” “Moonshine” is a scripted series hailing from EP Sheri Elwood (“Lucifer”). The drama follows a family of dysfunctional siblings as they battling for control of their family business.

The titles join previously announced new comedy “Son of a Critch” as well as dramas “The Rising,” and “Barons.” Also arriving this summer is fourth and final season of “Nancy Drew,” which premieres on Wednesday, May 31, and the final season of “Riverdale.” Both series finales will air back-to-back on Wednesday, August 23.
