Greg Fiocca will be the guest artist for the Cuyahoga Valley Community Chorus concert on Saturday, May 18.

The Cuyahoga Valley Community Chorus, under the artistic direction of Ted Shure, with assistant conductor Colleen Coyle Miller, and pianist John Eley, will present their spring performance entitled, “Songs of the Spirit” on Saturday, May 18.

The concert will start at 7 p.m. at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, 2121 Sixth St. in Cuyahoga Falls. The performance is free, though donations are greatly appreciated as the chorus is now a non-profit and continues to serve the community thanks to the generosity of the public.

The group’s featured guest artist will be cellist, Greg Fiocca, performing with the chorus as well as Shure at the piano.

“I have had the privilege of engaging Greg many times over the years, both as soloist and orchestra musician," Shure said. "Greg is a consummate professional and a very kind human being. I know when Greg is involved we are in for a musical feast! He most recently played for our community Messiah sing this past December, along with several of his professional colleagues. It was such a treat! Oh, and Greg is now a published author. A lucky member of the audience will have a chance to receive an autographed copy of his book, 'Digital Grace Notes.' But you have to be there to win.”

Audience members will also have the opportunity to win four tickets to a CAVS game during next season when the chorus performs the National Anthem.

The program includes works by Beethoven and Mozart, the Appalachian hymn “Will the Circle Be Unbroken,” the gospel song “Joyful, Joyful” from Sister Act II, and a patriotic segment that honors the men and women of the United States Armed Forces. Audience members and their family membrs associated with the Armed Forces will be honored during the performance. The fallen will also be honored.

A reception will take place following the performance.

St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, which is between Broad Boulevard and Portage Trail, is accessible and the performance is family friendly.

“We have had an amazingly successful inaugural season.” said Ted Shure. "The Chorus performed the National Anthem for the CAVS and was immediately invited back for next season. They filmed a TV commercial which was aired nationally during the holiday season, combined with choirs from CVCA and performed Handel’s Messiah as a community sing to benefit Urban Vision. To finish their inaugural season, the chorus will perform at the Memorial Day Commemoration Ceremony at Oakwood Cemetery and perform the National Anthem for the Akron Rubber Ducks on June 1."

The Cuyahoga Valley Community Chorus is a non-auditioned group. To find out more about the chorus, its performances, and how to become a member, visit them on Facebook or Instagram @cvchoral.
