Cute Kids Ring In the Holidays on ‘Chopped Junior’

On the holiday edition of Chopped Junior, the judges challenged their contestants with some interesting holiday fare, including a cornflake wreath and hot-dog stockings. Undaunted, Lily Babcock, Eli Schulman, Melody Nguyen, and Narell Hinds dazzled the judges. For the entrée round, they were given chateaubriand, cornflake wreaths, rainbow carrots, and hot-dog stockings. Although Lily packs a powerful karate chop herself, she got chopped when her wine-sauce reduction didn’t quite cut it.

It came down to Eli and Melody, who had to work with “lumps of coal” (balls of smashed-up cookies), pretzel snowflakes, peppermint ice cream, and strawberries dressed up as holiday lights. Eli created a bread-pudding crumble, and Melody made a peppermint-swirl whipped cream with chopped lumps of coal. It was a tough decision, but Eli’s bread pudding needed a bit more time in the oven, and Melody’s desert was compared to a semifreddo. In the end, Melody prevailed, taking home the $10,000 prize.

Chopped Junior airs Tuesdays at 8 p.m. on Food Network.
