There's something about a curved sofa with no legs that really does something to us. This one, which sold out in navy, is filled with dense foam padding and a spring coil system so that you can lounge on it pretty much all day without feeling uncomfortable. Normally, you can score just about any West Elm sofa in the brand's massive collection of fabrics, but this one is available in only the white bouclé shown, so buyer beware: it may get a bit dirty if you like to take a seat immediately after getting home.

The Chelsea Sofa

We don't like to play favorites, but if we had to pick one bouclé sofa that really speaks to us, it would be Maiden Home's famous Chelsea couch. You may not really be able to see them, but the curved, solid wood legs echo the fluid lines of the sofa and offer some extra support, making them the hero of this design. If white isn't your thing, be sure to order a few of the brand's complimentary fabric swatches. There's everything from merino to performance velvet.

Bold patterns are rarely something people feel neutral about. In other words, you either love them or hate them. If you fall into the former category, consider adding this cozy curved sofa with a gentle floral jacquard fabric to your living space. The legs are also removable, which may not seem like a plus, but if you've ever had to move furniture through a narrow doorway, you can appreciate the benefit of removable legs for an extra few inches of room.

How We Selected Our Curved Couches

As most of the House Beautiful team lives in New York, where space is limited, we couldn't test the sofas on our list. We have to be as practical and logical as possible to squeeze bigger furniture like sofas into our small living rooms. That said, we put a lot of research—hours' worth—into choosing and vouching for the pieces on our list. First and foremost, we chose only the best-looking curved couches on the market. Are Curved Couches in Style?

Yes, curved sofas are still in style more than 80 years after they first became popular. Though they've been around for far longer than that, German-American furniture designer Vladimir Kagan is known as the father of the curved couch after debuting his iconic Serpentine sofa in 1950. These days, an original Vladimir Kagan is considered a collector's item and can go for as much as $32,000, but his piece inspired so many up-and-coming furniture makers to create similarly curved couches for a lot less. Because curved couches generally don't have much going on in terms of ornamentation, they tend to boast a minimalist style that doesn't compete with other furniture in the room, which is how this type of sofa has managed to hold onto its timelessness. Lisanin says, "Their graceful curves can transcend fleeting design trends, making them a versatile choice that works well in various interiors styles. By selecting a classic silhouette and high-quality upholstery, you can ensure that your curved couch remains stylish for years to come."

What Is the Point of a Curved Sofa?

Curved sofas can't do anything that traditional sofas or sectionals don't, but they do serve a purpose that surpasses aesthetics. "A curved sofa creates a more cozy and intimate setting for better connection and conversation, as the seating arrangement encourages closeness and intimacy," Chiu notes. Plus, depending on the specific curve of your sofa, it can actually offer more surface area for sitting and lounging than its traditional counterpart. It can also squeeze into a corner the way a small round dining table can, without wasting space. Otherwise, because of their unique shape, they also look pretty good floating in the middle of the room. "I personally like curved couches because they can sit closer to the center of the room and away from the walls, creating the illusion of space," she adds. "In addition, the soft curves have a calming effect on our visual system and our mind, body, and soul."
