CU-Duncan to host free movie night at The Palace Theatre

Apr. 17—Get your popcorn ready. A free movie night for students, alumni and community members is on the books for this month.

Cameron University-Duncan will host a free screening of "Wonka" at 6:30 p.m. April 19 at The Palace Theatre.

CU-Duncan Director Dr. Dakota Kaus said the movie night is a way for them to express their gratitude for all of the community's support.

"CU-Duncan receives phenomenal support from communities throughout Stephens County, so we wanted to show our thanks for that constant support," Kaus said. "We're also providing this opportunity to our students to give them a break before they start preparing for finals week."

"Wonka," a 2023 musical fantasy and comedy, stars Timothée Chalamet as Willy Wonka and follows the original story of Willy Wonka and his journey in the world of chocolate.

The one hour and 57 minute film is rated PG for a little violence, language and thematic elements.

Theatre seating will be on a first-come, first-served basis.

Haylee Root, owner of The Palace, said The Palace's staff is excited to host CU-Duncan's movie night.

"We love hosting community events," Root said. "It is a great way to engage and support local organizations through entertainment."

Aside from group opportunities, Root said The Palace will accommodate movie night fundraisers, end of the year celebrations, church movie nights and more.

The Palace Theatre is located at 926 W. Main St. in Duncan. Additional parking will be available on Willow Avenue.
