The mother of three said hearing the singer's point of view during a 2022 interview made her suspicious

Crystal Renay is opening up about the event that led to her divorce from NE-YO.

On Thursday, April 11, the star of WE tv’s newest show Bold & Bougie, 38, stopped by The Breakfast Club to promote the series.

During the conversation, she confessed that it was her ex-husband’s own interview with the very same radio show two years prior that signaled an end to their marriage.

"Remember when y'all asked him the question, would he be OK not knowing if his partner was cheating? And he was like, 'I would live in a blissful bubble,'" Renay said of the “Let Me Love You (Until You Learn to Love Yourself)” hitmaker, 44.

The mother of three said his response made her a bit suspicious of what his actions could be if he was so content with the possibility of her being unfaithful.

After hearing his words, she thought to herself, “Uhn uhn, something ain't right. Is that how he wants me to think?'”

Renay continued, "I found everything that I needed to find that day, and I left.”

When NE-YO sat down with the iHeartRadio morning show in 2022, he told them, “The truth is rarely pretty.”

“If I wake up every morning and breakfast is cooked, my kids is taken care of, every time we around each other we smiling and happy, and things are blissful and then on my deathbed somebody tell me you been cheating on me my whole life, I lived a pretty good damn life,” the singer-songwriter previously said.

At the time, NE-YO also added that he’s instructed his friends to not inform him if they learn that his partner is cheating.

In Thursday’s interview, show host Charlamagne tha God brought up the irony in NE-YO’s projection being the downfall of his relationship with Renay — who said she discovered evidence of the infidelity in “a phone.”

In July 2022, Renay accused her now ex-husband of cheating via social media. “8 years of lies and deception,” she wrote on Instagram. “8 years of unknowingly sharing my life and my husband with numerous women who sell their bodies to him unprotected…every last one of them!”

The former pair finalized their divorce in February 2023.

In a recent interview with PEOPLE, Renay said she’s now in a happy place.

“I am feeling blessed and grateful to God for his redirection,” she said in March.

"Sometimes we can't see the bigger picture and what may or may not be for us and in this situation, clearly it wasn't a place for me to be in any longer, and I'm OK with that… I'm happy for myself because I chose my self-worth. I chose to stand up for myself and walk away from something that just wasn't serving me any longer.”
