'The Crown' Season 6 Brings Kelly Fisher Into the Fold

In the long-awaited sixth season of The Crown, Princess Diana (Elizabeth Debicki) and film producer Dodi Fayed (Khalid Abdalla) strike up a romance. It's a plot that drives a significant amount of the four episodes that premiered on Netflix on November 16. Their fling was brief in the summer of 1997, even though Fayed had a fiancée—American model Kelly Fisher (Erin Richards). Famously, Fayed was in the vehicle with Diana when they died in a car crash in Paris, not too soon after spending the summer together.

Before the tragic event, the 31-year-old Fisher was very much a part of the drama in the tabloids. Jealous of his relationship with Diana, she sued her fiancé after a photo of Fayed and the Princess kissing made the front pages. In Season Six, she considered Diana "the most beautiful woman in the world," but Fisher was a model in her own right. Throughout her career, she graced the covers of Elle, Cosmopolitan, and Vogue. Fayed proposed to her with a sapphire and diamond ring, and they were planning to get married in August 1997.

At a press conference before Fayed's death, Fisher's lawyer, Gloria Allred, argued that she was owed hundreds of thousands of dollars—alleging that they the film producer offered her money to stop modeling. "Mr. Fayed needs to take responsibility for the woman that he 'left at the altar' and treated with such total disrespect," Allred said, "He threw her love away in a callous way with no regard for her whatsoever."

After Fayed and Diana's tragic deaths, Fischer dropped the lawsuit. "Kelly loved Dodi very much, and she is devastated by his loss, and that of Princess Diana," Allred famously told reporters on Fisher’s behalf. "Nothing is more important than the life of a human being. In the light of this enormous tragedy, Kelly forgives Dodi for all of his past injustices against her." Fischer later married a pilot named Mikhail Movshina in 2007 while on safari in Africa. They welcomed a daughter in 2011.
