“The Crown”'s Kate Middleton and Prince William Make Their Red Carpet Debut at L.A. Premiere

Newcomer Meg Bellamy poignantly wore a red poppy pin just like Princess Kate did over the weekend to mark Remembrance Day

Meg Bellamy and Ed McVey are stepping into the spotlight as Kate Middleton and Prince William.

On Sunday, the young actors attended the season 6, part 1 premiere of The Crown at Regency Village Theatre in Los Angeles. Bellamy and McVey hit the blue carpet with castmates Elizabeth Debicki, Khalid Abdalla, Jonathan Pryce, Luther Ford, Rufus Kampa and Fflyn Edwards four days after the SAG-AFTRA strike came to a close through a tentative agreement with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers.

Deadline reported that the night out marked “the first post-strike Hollywood premiere of a major studio production attended by talent,” which was forbidden as the union pushed for a better contract during a strike that began in July. Exclusively speaking to PEOPLE at the premiere, Debicki, 33, said she was “very glad” that the strike had ended.

“I'm very glad the strike is over. It was an incredibly, incredibly difficult time for many, many people,” Debicki tells PEOPLE.

Bellamy and McVey posed for photos together at the L.A. premiere and smiled in snaps with Ford. The actress even wore a red poppy pin to mark Remembrance Day weekend in the U.K. just like Princess Kate did at the Festival of Remembrance on Saturday and National Service of Remembrance on Sunday in London.

The premiere kicked off a big week for The Crown, as part 1 of season 6 debuts on Thursday. Netflix’s hit drama inspired by the lives of the British royal family will take two final bows this fall with a split premiere for season 6 — a first for the series, which premiered in 2016.

Told in four episodes, the streamer previously said part 1 will follow the relationship between Princess Diana (Debicki) and Dodi Fayed (Abdalla) before the fatal car accident in Paris in 1997. PEOPLE previously confirmed that the moment of impact will be excluded from The Crown.

Dominic West will also be back in character as then-Prince Charles as Pryce reprises his role as Prince Philip, Lesley Manville portrays Princess Margaret and Imelda Staunton stars as Queen Elizabeth. Salim Daw is also back as Mohamed Al Fayed, and part 1 will see Rufus Kampa and Fflyn Edwards make their debuts as a young Prince William and Prince Harry. The Crown has changed the cast every two seasons to reflect the characters aging through the decades, and Kampa and Edwards make their debuts as a young Prince William and Prince Harry.

Four weeks later, part 2 will hit queues on Dec. 14 and feature six episodes — lit up by the final casting change. McVey will play William opposite Ford as Harry, while Bellamy takes on the role of Kate. Netflix previously said that part 2 will imagine a romance blossoming between the future Prince and Princess of Wales at college while an aging Queen mulls the future of the monarchy.

In an interesting twist, McVey, Ford and Bellamy will all count season 6 of The Crown as their first professional television appearance!

Bellamy auditioned to casting directors after submitting self-taped videos following a casting call on social media, according to Deadline, which was the first to report the news last year. Meanwhile, McVey graduated from Drama Centre London in 2021 and has understudied theater roles, while Ford studied directing at Arts University Bournemouth and has produced several shorts, the outlet said.
