Creepy passenger's Donald Trump excuse falls flat with Yahoo commenters

It has finally happened. Donald Trump’s own words have been used as an excuse to rationalize sexual assault, at least according to an official criminal complaint about the assault on an airplane. Yahoo commenters are not at all siding with the alleged perpetrator.

“Sad having a president that sets this type of influence,” said one commenter.

“What is this world coming to,” asked another.

The backstory: A Tampa Bay man was accused of sexual assault while on a Southwest flight on Sunday. The man reportedly harassed a woman, touching her chest area inappropriately multiple times. The victim was eventually relocated to a different seat. Bruce Michael Alexander, the alleged perpetrator, was questioned and handcuffed when the plane landed in Albuquerque. While being questioned, the police affidavit says, Alexander stated that he thought it was OK to harass the woman because “the President of the United States says it’s ok to grab women by their private parts.”

Several commenters were disgusted that Trump is influencing this type of behavior.

“Every day Trump remains in office is a validation of this kind of behavior,” one person wrote. Another succinctly summarized what many echoed: “The president says a lot of things. None of which based in reality or facts or the truth.”

Others were taken aback by the inaction of other passengers.

“Okay, where are all the MEN on these flights stopping these kinds of incidents,” asked one user. “I really hope I would say and do something if I witnessed this type of behavior.”

“Jail time for 3-5 years for this,” said another. “It’s an assault. His excuse for it should result in an increase in the penalty by a factor of 3X.”

Another user put the onus on parents, saying behavior is learned; “Teach your sons respect so that future generations won’t have to deal with this type of behavior.”
