Creator shares earring, styling hack she picked up from Parisian influencer: ‘That’s probably the coolest thing I’ve ever seen’

One creator is sharinga styling hack she picked up in Paris that involves using a common accessory in a not-so-common way.

On Nov. 2, Linoya Friedman (@linoya_friedman) a content creator and founder of the YouTube channel and blog “What People Are Wearing,” posted a video on TikTok in which she speaks to French influencer Kenza Kaci (@kenzaksebbagh) about the outfit she wore that day. While Kaci rocked an eclectic look that consisted of a sequins skirt from Zara and square-toe boots by Vagabond, there was one detail in particular that stood out to Friedman.

“I put this. It’s vintage,” Kaci says, referring to the gold clip-on earrings she attached to the collar of her top for added visual interest.

“That’s probably the coolest thing I’ve ever seen. So creative,” Friedman says in response to Kaci’s innovative earring hack.

Friedman then posted a separate video on Nov. 3 in which she tries Kaci’s styling hack for herself.

“I was not lying. I actually think this is the coolest thing I have ever seen, and we have some earrings to try and recreate the look,” she says, while holding a pair of gold hoop earrings. “I have bangle earrings. They’re not vintage, [let’s] see if this works.”

Friedman cinches the earrings along the side of her burgundy vest.

“I’m happy. I love. I would never have in a million years imagined to wear something like this. That’s why I love my job, because I get to meet all these amazing people that are so freaking creative,” she adds. “It’s not, by definition, a look recreation, but it is a styling hack recreation…Let’s please make this a trend and give her credit, obviously.”

While Friedman used pierced earrings to achieve the look, Kaci adorned her top with clip-on earrings, which were invented in the 1930s as a way for women to wear earrings without the “‘disgrace’ of piercing holes in their ears.” Vintage clip-on earrings can often be sourced from online retailers like eBay and Etsy, or from your local thrift store.

This isn’t the first unconventional styling hack that’s made waves on the video-sharing platform. In late September, TikTok user Esme Carpenter (@esmecarpenter) demonstrated how to style thrifted brooches in 15 different ways. Using a “statement brooch” to pin a cardigan closed or to secure it over your shoulders were among its creative uses.

Fellow TikTokers have taken to Friedman’s comments to praise Kaci’s use of vintage earrings.

“Love it! I need to try this fashion hack,” @sherry_annedg wrote.

“This would look super cute on a one shoulder top or dress in black,” @elizaanneboyd suggested.

“I would try with one earring on each strap, hers looks good with it on one side bc of the way the shirt is cut,” @user8383638920 added.
