'Creative Control' Clip: Reggie Watts Crushes Reggie Watts Role (Exclusive)

Musician and comedian Reggie Watts is currently the bandleader on The Late Late Show With James Corden, but he’s best known for his human beatbox-driven live shows, IFC’s Comedy Bang! Bang!, and having the second most epic Afro on late-night TV after ?uestlove. Watts has branched out into movies in recent years, most notably with a memorable bit part last year’s hit Pitch Perfect 2. Now he’s got his most prominent film role yet in the new indie sci-fi movie Creative Control. (Watch our exclusive clip above.)

Watts plays himself in the movie, and he’s tapped by a New York marketing exec David (writer-director Benjamin Dickinson) to help hawk a new pair of virtual-reality glasses.

As you can see in the clip, Watts takes to new technology — and takes the voicemail gag of opening up with a “Hello” and pause to a whole new, hologramic levels.

The black-and-white drama Creative Control debuted at last year’s SXSW Film Festival, where it won first-time feature director Dickinson a Special Jury Award for visual excellence. Dickinson and Watts have since collaborated on the trippy VR short Waves, which premiered at Sundance in January.

Creative Control opens theatrically March 11.
