Creative Arts Emmy Awards Winners: Anthony Bourdain, Craig Zadan’s ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’ Fittingly Lead Way On Night 2; ‘SNL’ Tops With 7 Wins – Full List

UPDATED with full list of winners: Anthony Bourdain’s CNN series and Craig Zadan’s final live musical Jesus Christ Superstar Live In Concert led an emotional Night 2 of the Creative Arts Emmy Awards on Sunday, with the shows scoring six and five wins respectively, including taking the top prizes in their fields. The night marked a fitting and final tribute to Bourdain and Zadan, who both passed away over the summer still in the primes of their TV-making lives.

Saturday Night Live, which comes into this year with 21 nominations overall, picked up seven wins Sunday to lead all shows, including multiple wins for the episode hosted by Donald Glover. In addition to the six wins by Anthony Bourdain Parts Unknown (including a writing nod for Bourdain and Outstanding Informational Series or Special for the show) and JCS (including snagging the marquee Outstanding Live Variety Special win), RuPaul’s Drag Race scored four nods, with RuPaul taking another best host trophy.

CNN had a good night overall too, with United Shades Of America With W. Kamau Bell taking the Unstructured Reality Series win along with one other. Netflix added to its total with major category wins for docuseries Wild Wild Country, reality series Queer Eye, and Dave Chappelle: Equanimity winning Variety Special.

HBO padded its network-leading total over the two-night Creative Arts ceremonies at the Microsoft Theater thanks to another posthumous win: the documentary The Zen Diaries Of Garry Shandling. Among series, SNL and Game of Thrones lead the way with seven wins apiece going into the Primetime Emmy Awards telecast a week from tonight.

Here’s how Sunday went down:

4 PM PT: “Welcome to the short night of the 2018 Creative Arts Emmys,” exec producer Bob Bain says to plenty of laughs. Not sure if that’s for the quip or at him for wishful thinking. Either way the show is underway, with the 30-second rule for speeches still in play (they didn’t listen much last night, if you’re scoring at home). And here we go with Jane Lynch to kick us off…

If he were here, he would thank his longtime literary agent and friend Kim Witherspoon for giving his words life through the medium of books…actually he wouldn’t have done that at all.
